Updates to our policy

Please find attached to the email sent home a revised addendum for the Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy to reflect the new lockdown arrangements. This can also be found on our website.

The addendum includes a statement about “robust communication plans” for children about whom there have been concerns but may not be open to Social Care or any other services.  In the previous lockdown, we telephoned families weekly, (some families much more frequently, depending on their individual circumstances) just because we care, but this week (after we called everyone!) the government have made it statutory that we call at least weekly. Our Local Authority agreement is:

  • We will ensure all children have contact details for Childline 0800 1111 in their channels this week, you might not think your child needs it, but their friends might.
  • For children who are currently on a Child Protection Plan, we need to have daily contact if the school is closed during term time, ideally by phone.
  • For children open to Social Care under Child in Need (CIN), the contact should be 2-3 times a week.
  • For all other vulnerable children, we aim to have weekly contact unless we believe it should be more regular for those in certain circumstances.

If we are unable to make contact with you as agreed, it is really important that you make contact with us, otherwise we will need to contact the police/social care. This is in line with our daily attendance calls, when school is open. If we have not been able to reach you, we need to know that you and your children are safe and well, this is not about checking up on you, but rather your safety.
